  4. Tent Anchoring Requirements*

If you will be providing your own tent or canopy, it must be safely secured to the ground from the moment the tent cover is erected to the moment immediately before it is taken down.

If the manufacturer provides guideline for securing the tent, those guidelines shall be followed. If there are no guidelines provided by the manufacturer, securing the tent shall meet the following requirements:

    • Tents and canopies that cover an area of less than 100 square feet are considered sufficiently secured with at least 20 pounds firmly attached to each leg.
    • The Redmond Fire Investigator will determine if the weight and attachment method is sufficient and may require additional measures at the scene given the nature of the event, tent usage and weather conditions. Weights should be positively fastened to the tent and not merely rest on the feet of the tent. Weights should hang securely on each tent leg by static ropes, hooks, or velcro rated to hold the weight. If tents, canopies, umbrellas, or signs are NOT adequately secured, Redmond Fire will require the tent to be dismantled.
