Modified Phase 1 allows for practices on sports field. Why is the City keeping their fields closed?

In accordance with the Governor’s Safe Start plan for Washington, practices can resume in Modified Phase 1 if players are limited to groups of five in separate parts, and practice can follow physical distancing of a minimum of 6 feet between players with no contact. Unfortunately, the City has encountered teams practicing on closed fields during the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order and Phase 1 without adhering to physical distancing or restricting the number of people gathering. The City does not have the ability to monitor the use of sports fields during rental activities to ensure that requirements are met. The health and safety of the community and minimizing the risk of transmission is our top priority.
