REDMOND, WA – The City of Redmond is accepting applications for the 2022 Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship award, presented by WM. Currently in its seventh year, the Derby Do-Gooder $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior in Redmond, who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to local community service. This scholarship, which is part of the 2022 Derby Days event in Redmond on July 8 and 9, will also provide an opportunity for the recipient to be honored with an appearance in the Derby Days Grand Parade on Saturday, July 9.
“Derby Days is about building community,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “By recognizing one special individual’s commitment to service, we celebrate this cherished value and the tradition of honoring our youths’ commitment to our community.”
The event is possible thanks to volunteerism and community service, and the Do-Gooder scholarship is one way that it is celebrated. Specifically, volunteers assist with the Derby Dash 5K, event set-up and tear down, event information booths, surveys, and more.
The Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship application is available at redmond.gov/DerbyDays. The scholarship application deadline is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31. Volunteer opportunities for the event will also be posted in May. For questions about Derby Days, the scholarship, or volunteer opportunities, contact events@redmond.gov.
