REDMOND, WA – The City of Redmond seeks applicants for its Arts and Culture Commission. One vacancy is open to individuals who reside within Redmond city limits in the 98052 zip code, and another is open to individuals who either live or work within zip code 98052 or those living in unincorporated King County with zip code 98053. The City is committed to having a commission that reflects the community’s diverse perspectives and encourages those with a passion for arts and culture to apply. All board and commission members are volunteers and serve three-year terms.
Commission members must attend the Arts and Culture Commission meetings, which are currently held virtually on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Once the COVID-19 state of emergency is lifted, in-person meetings will resume at Redmond City Hall. Additionally, commissioners participate on special committees and attend community meetings and events. They cultivate community involvement around Parks and Recreation Department projects and programs and occasionally attend City Council and other commission meetings. The Commission also interfaces with the broader community, so that it can represent community members’ interests to the City Council.
The Arts and Culture Commission continues to enhance the quality of life in Redmond by advising staff and City Council on public programs that build community, celebrate diversity, and enhance the vitality and identity of Redmond through performing, visual, and participatory arts. The current work plan includes advising on growing the arts in Redmond through the Poet Laureate program, the Arts Season grant program, and more. The Commission will also provide recommendations on several upcoming public art projects, including City and regional transportation projects in Redmond.
