At approximately 11:04 p.m. on Friday Feb. 21, Troopers with the Washington State Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle for multiple traffic violations on I-5 in Snohomish County. The vehicle failed to stop and fled southbound into King County. Troopers initiated a pursuit which included two attempts at deploying tire deflation devices. Additionally, a Trooper attempted a pursuit intervention technique (PIT) at which time the suspect driver fired shots at the WSP vehicle, damaging the windshield. The Trooper was not injured.
The pursuit continued onto I-405 and then east on SR520 into the city of Redmond traveling north on Avondale Road from SR520. After the suspect vehicle came to a stop on Avondale Road near NE 116th street, the suspect exited the car and fled on foot while continuing to fire shots.
Redmond Officers provided support to WSP Troopers as they contained the wooded area into which the suspect ran. Residents in the area were advised via Reverse 911 and social media to shelter in place during this time. At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Saturday morning the adult male suspect was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
WSP Troopers will continue their investigation at the scene into the morning hours and Redmond PD will continue to provide any assistance they require.
