July 30, 2018

A woman called police after she found thousands of dollars missing from her bank account. The unknown suspect had apparently been withdrawing money regularly over the last few months.

Redmond police investigated a scam where a caller convinced a woman she was being criminally charged by the IRS and duped her into wiring almost $15,000 to the suspect. The suspect contacted the victim over WhatsApp, a messaging app, and had her wire money to accounts in Florida and New York. The fraudster also asked her to purchase gift cards for payment and the victim then became suspicious and called police. These scams that threaten victims with criminal prosecution are prevalent and people should be wary of these types of callers. RPD advises that government officials will never ask you to wire money over the phone or to make tax payments with gift cards.

Thieves targeted several garages at a local apartment complex, managed to gain access to at least one and make off with some sports equipment and an AC unit. RPD advises making sure the manual lock is also secure on electric garage doors.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting after he left a local grocery store with numerous bottles of liquor and milk without paying. A store employee told police she had seen the suspect take about $1000 worth of liquor off the shelves and roll the cart out of the store without attempting to purchase the items. The suspect was booked into jail.

Police arrested a 60-year-old woman on suspicion of DUI after observing her driving dangerously and then conducting numerous field sobriety tests. An officer pulled the suspect over after seeing her drive in the wrong lane against oncoming traffic, running a red light, and not having headlights on at night. The woman was booked into jail on suspicion of DUI and Driving without a License.

An unlocked vehicle was prowled overnight and the thief made off with a purse that had been left inside. The victim's stolen credit cards were used soon after the theft at various nearby businesses. No suspect information was immediately available.

Police were called to investigate a person driving erratically, knocking over garbage cans and honking the horn. Once officers arrived they found an unoccupied vehicle that fit the witness description left at an elementary school. The car still had a Club lock on the wheel and turned out to have been stolen from a few blocks away. No suspect was found in the immediate area but evidence left in the vehicle was collected and is being processed.

Police were called after a "skimming" device was found on a Redmond ATM. The device is designed to be placed on an ATM and fraudulently collect the bank information from the user's card. Redmond police collected the device and other evidence and forwarded the case to the U.S. Secret Service.

A Redmond Police bike officer on routine patrol discovered a vehicle with a freshly smashed window and located the owner who was working at a nearby pharmacy. The victim concluded his laptop bag and personal papers had been stolen. No surveillance video was available and there is no suspect information at this time.
August 4, 2018

A man called police after his firearm went missing from his vehicle somewhere between the shooting range and his residence. The victim stopped for lunch in between the range and home and left the weapon concealed in a gym bag in the car. The victim found the pistol was missing from the bag when he got to his house. There was no sign of forced entry on his vehicle or any other items missing. No suspect information was available.

Several unlocked vehicles were rummaged through overnight and had pieces of personal property taken. There was no damage to any of the vehicles. Suspects remain unidentified.
August 5, 2018

- Location: 8500 block of Willows Road
- Case Number: 18-004201
A family returned to their apartment after just a few hours of being gone to find their front door had been kicked in property missing from their home. The burglar rummaged through several rooms and stole various pieces of jewelry and other items. Officers canvassed the surrounding area to see if any neighbors spotted the thief, but no witnesses were found. Evidence gathered at the scene was sent for fingerprinting.
