April 9, 2018

An unknown suspect smashed the windows on multiple vehicles while they were parked in a gym parking lot. In each case the thief stole a bag of some sort that had been in plain view in the vehicle. Evidence was gathered at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

A woman reported she had been scammed by a caller who told her she had an overdue Puget Sound Energy bill and demanded payment immediately. The victim was told she needed to pay her outstanding balance with a prepaid cash card or her power would be turned off. She complied and then called PSE to find the call had not originated from them. Official agencies will never request payment by gift card or cash card over the phone. RPD recommends that if a call seems suspicious to call the official agency and verify before taking any action.

Officers were called after a teenager stole an electric golf cart belonging to the City of Redmond and drove it the top of a parking garage at the downtown park and ride. The teen was noticed by many witnesses as he was driving the go cart with his face covered in black paint and was wearing a life vest over several layers of clothing. Police contacted the teen, who was accompanied by his cat in a pet carrier, detained him, and then released him to his mother a short time later.

A home doorbell camera caught a package thief snatching a parcel off a Redmond front porch before hopping in a vehicle and zooming away. The victim called police and provided the video footage. The investigation is ongoing but no suspect has been identified yet.

Two neighbors discovered both their cars had been broken into overnight while the vehicles were parked at their apartment complex. The unknown suspect smashed windows on both vehicles to gain entry. Officers lifted fingerprints from the scene and they are being processed.

After losing her wallet at a local sandwich shop, a woman reported finding more than $2000 of fraudulent charges on her credit card soon after the wallet went missing. Police are investigating any potential security footage from the sandwich shop and the electronics store where the fraudulent purchase occurred.
