Dear Redmond Community,
Police officers have to uphold the law, period. I expect our officers, myself included, to apply the law fairly and equally to all. We must do this in a manner that prioritizes and respects the sanctity of life. This includes a duty to intervene if a fellow officer is acting outside of law or policy. Not only is that our policy, but it's also our moral imperative.
We are focused on continuous improvement and meeting the expectations of our community. Above all, we value the trust that the public we serve places in us. We vow to meet the standards of conduct that Redmond expects and deserves from their Police Department. It is my vision that the Redmond Police Department establishes itself as the standard other departments aspire to become.
We have received many important questions from our community during the last few weeks about the Redmond Police Department's policies on use of force, training, procedures and practices. We appreciate the outreach and opportunity to have an open and transparent conversation with the public.
In order to thoroughly address the most common questions asked by individuals, groups and campaigns such as #8Can'tWait and Campaign Zero, we have created an FAQ page on our website at redmond.gov/police. If you have further inquiries or would like more information on any given subject, please reach out to rpd@redmond.gov.
Please call us if you need us, we are here for you.
Sincerely,
Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe
