The public is invited to an Eastside Community Safety Forum on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sammamish High School at 100 140th Avenue SE, Bellevue, WA, 98005. Dinner and childcare will be provided.
Law enforcement officials from the cities of Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island, and Bothell will join social service agencies to discuss how community members can report and receive assistance handling hate crimes and bias incidents within their communities.
“This is a great opportunity for various police departments and communities to come together to talk and learn about this important topic. I’m honored to share space and deliver this message with my colleagues,” Redmond Police Chief Darrell Lowe said.
Topics will include an overview of hate crime and bias-related incidents, how to report these crimes and what to expect afterward, and how to get help for victims. A small group discussion will provide time for questions following the presentations.
Organized by the Muslim Community and Neighborhood Association, Indian American Community Services, Immigrant Women’s Community Center, Eastside for All, and the Chinese Information and Service Center, the event is the fifth in a series to help foster conversations with community members and encourage individuals to report hate and bias-related incidents to their respective law enforcement agencies.
Interested parties are asked to register for the event at https://ow.ly/H9ou50Pq4nk.

Redmond Safe Place Program
Redmond Police Department partners with the Redmond business community in assisting victims of hate or bias crimes through the Safe Place program. Businesses that participate place an easily recognizable decal at their entrances that shows this location has partnered with the police. They will call 911 on the victim’s behalf and provide a safe place to stay until the police arrive.
