[ARCHIVED] Redmond Named Most Livable Small City in the United States

REDMOND, WA – The City of Redmond was ranked the most livable small city in the United States, according to a study conducted by SmartAsset. Redmond was among three Eastside cities named in the top 10 nationwide.

With more than 75,000 residents in Redmond, the study found only 1.93% are without health insurance, which gives the City the 10th-lowest uninsured rate across the study. It also found that housing costs are 17.77% of the median household income, a lower percentage than nearly 90% of cities evaluated.

“This recognition affirms the work we’ve done to build a connected community that enhances livability,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “I’m proud that Redmond is a thriving hub of economic development and healthy living, and is simply a great place to live. I also recognize that we strive to ensure that opportunities are available to all. We remain committed to increasing affordability, and I look forward to continued collaboration with our community and the numerous partners who make our city vibrant.”

The study considered locations with populations between 65,000 and 100,000 people and analyzed data for 275 small cities. Nine metrics were considered, such as dining, entertainment, healthcare, employment, poverty, and average commute times. Data from the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics was analyzed for the study.
