City Seeks New Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commissioner and Youth Advocates

Volunteer to help guide the future of Redmond’s Parks, Recreation, and Trails

REDMOND, WA – The City of Redmond is recruiting to fill one mid-term commissioner vacancy and two youth advocate vacancies on the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission. The three positions are open to community members residing within the 98052 zip code, and the youth vacancies are for those between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. These are one-year term positions, with the opportunity to renew for a second three-year term for commissioners and a one-year term for youth advocates. The Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission advises the Mayor and City Council on acquisition, improvements, rules, regulations, and future needs regarding parks, recreation, and trails.

The City is committed to having a commission that reflects the diversity of the community and welcomes applications from any resident interested in the future of Redmond parks, recreation, and trails, including those who may have applied for past vacancies. The City values commissioners and youth advocates who can connect with a broad spectrum of parks, community center, and trails users, as well as those who will represent community members’ interests at meetings with City Council and the commission.

Commissioners and youth advocates must attend the Parks, Trails, and Recreation Commission meetings, held at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. Meetings are hybrid, with an in-person option preferred at Redmond City Hall.

To learn more, contact Parks Planning Manager Caroline Chapman at ckchapman@redmond.gov or 425-556-2442. To apply, visit redmond.gov/Commissions. Interested community members are encouraged to apply by 5 p.m. on June 22.
