REDMOND, WA – The 2023 Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship is now open for applications. Presented by WM, the scholarship will be awarded at the 2023 Redmond Derby Days event on July 14 and 15.
Currently in its eighth year, the Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship will award $1,500 to a high school senior in Redmond who has shown an extraordinary commitment to community service. In addition to the scholarship funds, the recipient will be honored with an appearance in the Derby Days Grand Parade on Saturday, July 15, 2023.
“Students' voices, values, and commitment to service are what will ensure Redmond continues to be a vibrant community,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “I am proud of our tradition that celebrates an individual’s dedication to service, as well as builds community through both this scholarship and Derby Days.”
Volunteerism and community service are at the heart of the Derby Days event, and the Do-Gooder Scholarship is just one way that it is celebrated. The event also helps connect community members with city staff and elected officials to discuss their priorities for the City. In addition, volunteers will have the opportunity to sign up to assist with the drone light show, cornhole tournament, event set-up and tear-down, event information booths, questionnaires, and more.
The Derby Do-Gooder Scholarship application is available at redmond.gov/DerbyDays. The scholarship application deadline is 9 p.m. on June 4, 2023. Volunteer opportunities for the event are also posted at redmond.gov/DerbyDays.
