Identity Theft & Fraud

What is Identity Theft?

Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information without your permission. According to a U.S. Bureau of Justice report published in 2016, an estimated 10 percent of persons age 16 or older reported that they had been victims of identity theft during the prior 12 months. The portion of the population that experienced identity theft increased from 7 percent in 2014 to 10 percent in 2016.
