- Transfer of Development Rights
Redmond's Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) program allows property owners in environmentally or historically significant areas to transfer their right to develop to property owners in areas of Redmond more suitable for urban development.
A successful transaction benefits the seller, who sells the development rights for financial considerations, the buyer, who is able to use the TDR on his/her property, and the public at large, which gains a permanent open space, recreation area, or historically significant site.
The Department of Commerce's (formerly Community, Trade, and Economic Development) Fall 2008 About Growth publication (PDF) Opens in New Window highlights TDR programs in Redmond and other parts of Puget Sound.
Potential participants in the TDR program are strongly encouraged to use our resources in order to maximize the utility of the program. In addition, Planning Department staff is available to assist in answering questions about the program and how it might apply to a particular property.
