Redmond Zoning Code Rewrite

Amendment Purpose

This amendment package will include updates to regulations in coordination with Redmond 2050 policy updates and other code amendments for process improvement, clarity, and streamlining. Also included will be updates to the Downtown Design Standards to clarify the purpose of design elements and to update guidelines and standards for urban building forms.

Preliminary Draft Proposals for Updates to Downtown's Design Standards 

Updates to the standards are proposed to include purpose statements, illustrations, and standards based on pedestrian realm types. 

Buildings relate to the public realm (from the back of curb to the exterior building wall) that in turn relates to the right of way (street design from curb to curb). Example of public realmWe look forward to orienting design standards to a public realm typology such as: urban core, urban mixed, multifamily residential, and nonmotorized connections.  Please note that public realm types and designs are in very early consideration and will be considered only conceptually in the designs topics below. Design standards are the requirements, located in the Redmond Zoning Code, that direct the form of new construction and major remodels. The recommended updates to Downtown's design standards are anticipated for review by the Planning Commission and City Council in 2024-2025.
