Project Overview

As part of the City’s Pavement Preservation Program, the City will repave the asphalt surface on 185th Ave NE and NE 76th Street. This project will include a grind and overlay to preserve the street long-term, in addition to replacing select utility lids, updating the roadway markings, and replacing the existing signal loop detectors. Work is expected to start in August 2023, with exact dates determined closer to construction.

What is a grind and overlay?

A grind and overlay involves first removing the upper layers of the existing asphalt surface through grinding and replacing it with a new asphalt surface with asphalt paving.

Why Are We Doing This?

Due to the age and continued deterioration of the asphalt surface, a grind and overlay is warranted. This is a common technique used by many agencies to rehabilitate aging pavement.

What to Expect

  • Work is expected to last up to three weeks, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. -6 p.m. Exact dates of construction will be provided closer to the date of construction.
  • Lane closures and traffic diversions will cause traffic backups. Please allow extra time for travel through the site.
  • Access to your property will remain open. However, if your property has two driveways for access, then one driveway may be closed during work operations. There will also be periods of time where access is limited to your property for up to ten minutes to allow the asphalt surface to cool down before vehicles are allowed to drive on it.
  • Several “No Parking” signs will be placed on the street one or two days before to prepare for this closure. Vehicles will not be allowed to park on the road during construction.
  • Emergency response vehicles will be allowed at all times.
  • Sidewalks will be open at all times.

How You Can Help the Work Crews

  • Remove your vehicle from the streets on the date shown on the “No Parking” signs.
  • Please plan ahead and give yourself extra time to travel through the work zone. Please be patient with the work crews and flaggers.
  • Remove all personal items from the street and keep water off the street during the work.
