Sustainable Buildings
Did you know that energy used in commercial and industrial buildings accounts for 53% of Redmond’s greenhouse gas emissions? Redmond building owners have the opportunity to take meaningful steps to save money, reduce emissions, and ensure the continued resilience of our community. Learn more about relevant laws and resources below.
Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard
At the state-level, standards have already been implemented to lower pollution from the state’s existing covered and multifamily buildings. If you own or operate a building over 20,000 square feet, you may be required to comply with state required energy performance targets. Learn more about complying with the Washington State Clean Buildings Standard.
Resources For Saving Energy
Do you want to lower your buildings energy costs and emissions but aren’t sure where to start? Check out these resources:
PSE offers a no-cost accelerator program to help commercial building owners understand and structure their compliance with the Clean Buildings law.
PSE’s Accelerator Program features:
- Guidance for Clean Buildings Law compliance
- Assistance setting up processes and tools like Energy Star Portfolio Manager and PSE’s EnergyCAP
- Tailored coaching, review, and prioritization of energy-saving opportunities based on site specifics and organizational interests
Utilizing a cohort-based structure, the program begins with a 4-month sprint to fast-track building owners towards compliance, followed by quarterly workshops for program graduates to address evolving needs.
Compliance with the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard takes time. Get started today to ensure compliance and maximize the benefits of increased energy efficiency.
Learn more and register for the program on PSE’s Clean Buildings Accelerator page.
What is C-PACER? Short for Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and Resiliency, the C-PACER Program allows owners of eligible commercial, industrial, agricultural, and multifamily properties to obtain long-term financing for qualifying energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, and resiliency investments.
C-PACER does not use any government funds, it is a loan agreement between a private lender and the property owner, like a mortgage or home improvement loan. The unique part about C-PACER financing is that the county records the loan as a lien on the property, which means that if the property owner sells the building, the assessment stays with the building (unless the payoff is part of the sale agreement).
Examples of projects that can be financed using C-PACER include:
- Energy and water efficiency
- Electrification improvement (eliminates fossil fuel combustion)
- Renewable energy
- Electric vehicle charging
- Seismic hardening
- Fire detection and suppression
- Flood readiness
- Stormwater management
- Energy storage
