Downtown Redmond Art Walk
August 17, 2023
The 1st Annual Downtown Redmond Art Walk highlighted Redmond's local artists and downtown businesses on Thursday, August 17. The event partnered the downtown area's businesses with local artists in order to highlight both art and the vibrant organizations in Redmond's downtown corridor. As a part of the event, the City of Redmond activated Downtown Park from 4 - 7 p.m. with art and performances, as well as produced a map of participating locations to encourage participants to visit the art and performances at those businesses.

2024 Cultural Arts Operating Support Grant
The City’s Operating Support Grant application is open. This grant offers limited, unrestricted support to eligible organizations in Redmond whose missions serve the community through access to arts, arts education, and cultural heritage experiences. In addition to funding, the City will provide access to resources and additional support and opportunities for grantees.

The Redmond Arts and Culture Commission recently approved a new initiative, the Cultural Arts Micro Grant. The City of Redmond offers up to $250 in funding to eligible projects or activities in Redmond whose purpose serve the community through access to arts, arts education, and cultural heritage experiences. This program is intended to assist in increasing access to arts and culture for our residents.

Opens a New Window. Meet Our Poet Laureate
The City of Redmond is proud to announce the 2022 Poet Laureate, Laura Da'.
Our new Poet Laureate, a poet and a public-school teacher, Da’ studied creative writing at the University of Washington and the Institute of American Indian Arts. A lifetime resident of the Pacific Northwest, Da’ is the recipient of fellowships from the Native Arts and Culture Foundation, Richard Hugo House, and the Jack Straw Writers Program. She is the author of Tributaries, winner of the American Book Award, and Instruments of the True Measure, winner of the Washington State Book Award. Da’ is Eastern Shawnee. She lives near Renton with her husband and son.
Established in 2008 by ordinance 2444, the Poet Laureate program produces a variety of programming and community engagement opportunities offered to Redmond residents and visitors. The Redmond Poet Laureate Program builds a more literate and understanding community through poetry and the literary arts by broadening awareness of poetry and expressing the spirit of Redmond culture through poetry.

Meet our 2020-2021 Artist-In-Residence
Our new Artist-in-Residence Xaviera Vandermay is Director and Principal Choreographer of 3rd Shift Dance, a professional contemporary jazz dance company based in Seattle, WA and currently in residence at YAW Theater with summer projects including a music video project with Whitney Mongé and back-up dancing for a reunited Flymoon Royalty.
