Patrol Unit

Patrol officers provide 24-hour emergency police services within the 17 square miles of the city of Redmond. They respond to calls for service and crimes in progress, including emergency and non-emergency events.

These officers are the most visible in the community and are assigned to one of four patrol districts in the city. Patrol officers work 10-hour shifts with alternating weekends off.

Special Assignments

Redmond Police Department is a progressive agency with many specialized units and teams for officers who want to dedicate their efforts toward honing specific skills.

Police Traffic Unit

Traffic Unit

Traffic officers enforce traffic rules, provide technical collision investigation, DUI enforcement, and traffic safety education.

Police K9 Program

K-9 UNIT

The K-9 Unit supports the Patrol Units for specialized responses to serious crimes and when a suspect is present and/or has fled the scene. K-9 helps to locate suspects, evidence, and narcotics.

Police Bike Unit

Bike Unit

The Bike Unit responds quickly and with agility to issues in the downtown area. In times of heavy traffic, our bike officers often can arrive on scene before patrol cars can weave their way through congested streets. The Bike Team also provides outreach for Redmond’s homeless population. Officers work closely with the City Homeless Outreach Specialist and Human Services Division.

Police Tactical Unit

Tactical Unit

Redmond Police is a member of North Sound Metro SWAT, providing both Specialized Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) units. Metro is a regional response team able to address potentially serious incidents such as volatile situations, arrests of violent suspects, hostage situations, barricaded persons, and hazardous search warrants. Both the SWAT and CNT teams work in partnership toward a peaceful outcome.

Police Detective Unit

Detective Unit

The Detective Unit is responsible primarily for investigating felony crimes and misdemeanor crimes. The team develops additional leads in an investigation, prepares and serves search warrants, prepares suspect composites, gathers and processes evidence, recovers stolen property, provides surveillance, arrests suspects, and prepares cases for presentation in court. A legal advocate assists crime victims with navigating the criminal justice system and court process.
