The City of Redmond is hosting free online classes about living more sustainably. All classes will be interactive with a live instructor. Zoom meeting information is provided at the time of registration.

Redmond ChallengeParticipants who live within the Redmond City limits (98052 zip code) can earn prizes for completing a challenge after each class. Each class has a different prize to help you live more sustainably.

Free Spring Sustainable Living Classes - All Ages

Sustainable Kitchen – Thursday, April 29, 7 - 8 p.m.
Learn how to buy, store, and cook foods to prevent waste. Class includes recipes.
Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free utensil kit!

Home Recycling and Composting – Thursday,  May 6, 7 - 8 p.m.
Find out what items go into your recycle or compost cart, plus tips to reduce plastics.
Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free reusable bag!

Simplify for Sustainability - Thursday, May 13, 7 - 8 p.m.
Find out how to properly dispose of batteries, medicine, and more, plus tips on decluttering.
Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free reusable straw!

Sustainable Cleaning – Thursday, May 20, 7 - 8:00 p.m.
Learn how to choose safer cleaning products or how to make your own with simple ingredients. Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free drain cleaning tool!

Sustainable Self Care – Thursday, May 27 at 7 - 8:00 p.m.
Learn to make safer choices about body care products, including recipes to make your own. Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free microfiber cloth!

Free Sustainability Classes for Redmond 50+ Seniors

What Goes Where Online Resources - Monday, April 26, 10 - 11 a.m.
A live instructor will guide you through using City of Redmond's online database of recyclers, including how to find out what is accepted in your recycling cart. Plus, we will dig into King County's database of where to take unusual items for recycling or proper disposal.
Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free zip drive!

What to Do with Household Hazardous Items, Medicine and Plastic Bags - Wednesday, May 26, 2-3 p.m.
A live instructor will guide you through determining what qualifies as household hazardous waste, how to handle it, and where to take it. Other topics will include online resources for finding locations to return unwanted medicines and where to recycle plastic bags.
Redmond residents who take the class and complete a quick and easy follow-up challenge are eligible to receive a free microfiber cloth!

Free Sustainability Classes for Redmond Kids Ages 6 – 12

Zero Waste Edible Crafts - Saturday, April 24, 10–11 a.m.
A live instructor will lead students through a fun edible craft while kids learn about waste reduction and recycling. Participants will receive craft instructions and resources after class.

Zero Waste Crafting with Household Items - Sunday, May 23, 2–3 p.m.
A live instructor will lead students through a fun, zero waste craft using household items while kids learn about waste reduction and recycling. Participants will receive craft instructions and resources after class.

Redmond Challenge Prize Rules and Distribution

  • Classes are open to anyone; however, to play for prizes, participants must be Redmond residents living within City limits. 
  • One challenge entry per person, per class, will be accepted.  
  • All challenge submissions must be emailed by June 4 at 5 p.m. to receive prizes. Instructions will be included after each class.
  • Prizes are subject to availability while supplies last. Prize substitutions may be made at the City of Redmond's discretion. The City reserves the right to disqualify entries. Prizes will be mailed as a bundle to each participant in mid-June.
