Lateral Officer
The Lateral Hiring Process
- Apply at Redmond.gov and pass the preliminary screening process
- Attend and pass the oral board exam in person or remotely via video/phone
- Pass background including Chief’s interview, polygraph, psychological and medical exams
- Complete the 80-hour WA State Criminal Justice Training Center Equivalency Academy
- Complete Field Training Program, partnering with an experienced officer for 12-16 weeks
General Requirements
- 21 years of age or older
- U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
- 90 quarter or 60 semester hours from an accredited college
- College waiver for 2+ years LE experience
- Valid WA State driver’s license upon hire
Additional Lateral-Specific Requirements
- Employed as a full-time, sworn, law enforcement officer for a minimum of 24 months within the last five years
- Provide a certificate or transcript from an equivalent Basic Law Enforcement Academy that satisfies WA CJTC requirements

- Lateral starting pay: $89,339 - $97,331 (+ appr. $8,000 in bonuses)
