Youth Police Academy

Redmond Police Department is proud to host its first Youth Community Police Academy!

The 2023 youth academy will be in-person at the police station located at 8701 160th Ave. NE in Redmond. The Youth Police Academy is an interactive 5-week program designed for individuals aged 14-18, to give members a behind-the-scenes look at our department and demonstrate how your PD works every day to serve you. 

Classes are held every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., October 11 through Nov 8. The first night will have a station tour for those who can stay until 8:30 p.m.

Youth Police Academy Application

Class topics include:

• Patrol Procedures
• SWAT/Hostage Negotiator Team
• Body Worn Camera and VR demo
• K-9 Unit
• Investigations Division
• Dispatch

Participant Requirements:

This year's class is limited to 40 participants.

We welcome those 14 to 18 years of age. Attendees need not be Redmond residents, but priority will be given to those who live, work, or have a connection to our city. Applicants' criminal history will be screened for admission into the secured portions of the public safety building. 

In order to receive a certificate of completion during graduation, participants must attend at least 4 of the 5 classes.

• A brief statement about why you would like to attend the Youth Community Police Academy and what you hope to learn about the department

*The Redmond Police Department will use this information to check for outstanding legal issues with our department. The findings of any such search will be reviewed by supervisors within the organization, and a conversation will take place regarding the suitability of the participant’s involvement with the 2023 Youth Community Police Academy.
