Community Police Academy
Registration for our 2021 Community Police Academy is now closed.
The Redmond Police Department’s Community Police Academy is a 7-week program built to help familiarize the public with common police procedures, activities and investigative techniques.
Normally the Community Police Academy is held in person at the Redmond Police Department but will be virtual in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings. Classes are held one night a week on Thursdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on a Microsoft Teams online meeting.
Class topics may include:
- Patrol Procedures
- RPD's Mental Health Professional Program
- Traffic Operations
- Use of Force and Implicit Bias Training
- Anatomy of an Arrest
- Post Arrest and the Court Process
- History and Culture of the Redmond Police Department
In order to receive a certificate of completion during graduation, participants must attend at least five of the seven classes.
Candidates must provide the following information to apply for the Community Police Academy:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- Phone number
- A brief statement about why you would like to attend the Community Police Academy and what you hope to learn about the department.
The Redmond Police Department will utilize this information to query our local records management system in order to verify participants don’t have any outstanding legal issues with our department. The findings of any such search will be reviewed by supervisors within the organization and a conversation would take place regarding the suitability of the participant’s involvement with the 2021 Community Police Academy.
