Each night of So Bazaar includes community art booths curated by VALA Eastside. Venues for Artists in the Local Area (VALA) has been creating a thriving community of connected artists since their founding. Stop by these booths located at Downtown Park!

Performances

3rd Shift Dance
3rd Shift Dance is a contemporary jazz dance company directed by Xaviera Vandermay. 3rd Shift Dance has created film collaborations, dance battles, and “Shift Sessions” featuring live musicians paired with dance. This year, they will be creating three original pieces fitted to the themes of each night of So Bazaar – Air, Water, and Fire. Come Experience the Shift.

Michelle Lassaline’s You as an Animal
Michelle Lassaline (also known as Coyote, Pelican, or Bear) dressed in her handmade papier-mache animal masks and costumes, has painted over 2,000 watercolor portraits of people as their favorite animal. She's met caracals, capybaras, crocodiles, and axolotls, and even an occasional kangaroo. Wombats, whales, or walruses, what kind of animal are you?

Cooking Demo with Hopelink
Hopelink is a local organization that works with homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities, helping people gain the skills and knowledge they need to exit poverty for good.

Jamtown Live
John Hayden is an adventure traveler with artisan friends around the world that create rhythm instruments for his company Jamtown®. He has produced the Northwest Folklife ‘Rhythm Tent’ Stage since 2004 and teaches hand drum in Edmonds. Jamtown John’s innovative and engaging community music and rhythm play is fun for all ages. Jamtown invites the audience of So Bazaar to pick up an instrument and play.

Mariachi Ayutla
Follow this group of meandering musicians in charro suits around So Bazaar as they serenade the audience. You may have heard their beautiful tunes at the Cinco de Mayo celebration earlier this year at Downtown Park!

Air to Live, Living Air with Poet Laureate Raúl Sánchez
The City of Redmond’s new Poet Laureate comes from a place south where the sun shines fiercely. Raúl Sánchez is a translator, poet, author, TEDx participant, occasional DJ, and was nominated for the 2013 Washington State Book Award in Poetry for "All Our Brown-Skinned Angels. He is creating something special and thematic for his So Bazaar debut.

Swing Dance Workshop with DanceWorks Studio
Learn to swing through the air during these exciting swing dance workshops and performances. Social Dance Instruction in A fun And friendly atmosphere by Redmond’s own DanceWorks Studio.

Fabulous Downey Brothers
The Fabulous Downey Brothers live up to their name with zany, zolo-esque, high-energy performances that get the audience singing along. With fantastically weird full body outfits and statement accessories like eyeball glasses, the Fabulous Downey Brothers present a unique aesthetic and sound you’ve never experienced before.

S.E.A.T. (Seattle Experimental Animation Team)
The Seattle Experimental Animation Team is a loose collective of like-minded creatives in the Seattle area. These animators and filmmakers embody the creative, vivacious, and passionate local independent animation scene. A selection of short films will be projected on Buoyant’s digital art wall. Be sure to take a moment to step into an animated world.
