Public comment requested on Percent for Art Projects

Grass Lawn Park and the Public Safety Building  The Redmond Arts Commission is inviting public comment on two Percent for the Arts proposals, one to be located at the Public Safety Building and the other at Grass Lawn Park.

The public may view drawings and models of the projects and register their comments from July 30 to August 3 at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, 16600 NE 80th Street from 8 am to 8 pm and from August 6 to 10 at Redmond City Hall, 15670 NE 85th Street from 8 am to 5 pm.  The public will be reviewing several finalists for each location selected through a public process by the artwork selection panel of the Redmond Arts Commission.

For Grass Lawn Park, the artists were asked to create interactive musical sculptures.  The finalists selected are Ela Lamblin, Michelle Rosenberg and the team of Karl Aspelund and Brent Baggett.

For the Public Safety Building, the artists were asked to create a mosaic image on the side of the building.  Artists selected for this project are Roberto Delgado and the team of Bruce Andersen and Shannon Andersen.

“The Arts Commission works very hard to ensure Redmond has a variety of public art pieces placed throughout the community,” says Mayor Rosemarie Ives. “Public art is an indicator of a quality community and these art installations for the Public Safety Building and Grass Lawn Park will be two more examples that both residents and visitors will be able to enjoy.”

The selection panel will review public comments and recommend one finalist for each project to the Arts Commission on September 13.  The final recommendation will be forwarded to the City Council for funding approval.  Funding for this project is available in the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget as part of the Percent for the Arts Program.
