Center for Digital Government names top 10 digital cities
Redmond was named the nation’s most technology-advanced
city in its population category of 30,000 to 74,999 by the National League of
Cities (NLC) and the Center for Digital Government, a national research and
advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in
state and local government.
The results were based on the 2004 Digital Cities Survey developed by the
Center and NLC this past summer. These organizations invited more than 600 city
mayors, managers and chief information officers to participate. The survey
grouped the cities into four population categories of 250,000 or greater;
125,000-249,000; 75,000-124,999 and 30,000-74,999. Survey questions focused on
implementation of online service delivery; planning and governance; and the
infrastructure that makes the transformation to digital government possible.
“This award recognizes that even small cities can deliver huge value by being
creative, partnering with others, and focusing on customer needs,” said Mayor
Rosemarie Ives. “Our website is attractive and friendly, service-oriented and
packed with information.”
