City staff is working with the community to update the Bear Creek Neighborhood Plan (view plan update schedule). Read on to learn more about the neighborhood plan update! Read the November 2009 newsletter, which focuses on potential neighborhood boundary changes and the neighborhood vision statement (neighborhood boundaries are not related to school assignments).
On March 24, 2010 at 8pm at Redmond City Hall, the Redmond Planning Commission will hold a
public hearing on a proposal to add transportation projects to the Buildout Transportation Plan. The proposed projects were
selected through the 2009 Greater Southeast Redmond Area Transporation Study. More information about the project and a copy
of the proposal is available on the study website.
The City's Comprehensive Plan contains the community's vision
of what Redmond should be like 20 years from now and policies to
carry out that vision. The Plan contains policies to guide
protection of the environment, the intensity and location of
residential and commercial development, and improvement of parks,
streets and other public facilities and services. The City's
Community Development Guide contains regulations that implement these policies and the community'
vision.
Redmond's Comprehensive Plan also includes a vision statement and
policies that are specific to each of the ten neighborhoods in the
City. These policies are intended to help preserve and enhance
neighborhood characteristics valued by residents and people who work
there.
Neighborhood plans and policies also:
- Reflect the priorities of people who live and work in the
neighborhood.
- Describe important neighborhood goals and how to accomplish
them.
- Serve as a guideline for the neighborhood and city decision
makers.
- Help to coordinate and indicate priorities for improvements in
City services and facilities.
- Are consistent with but do not duplicate the Comprehensive
Plan.
- Help to implement the Comprehensive Plan.
- Serve as a tool to bring together those who live or work
in an area to help address concerns and goals.
The existing Bear Creek
neighborhood policies emphasize the following:
- Protecting the area's natural resources while accommodating anticipated growth;
- Focusing future growth in the Avondale corridor;
- Supporting equestrian uses in and around the neighborhood;
- Providing utility services appropriate to development intensity; and,
- Providing opportunities for active and passive recreation in neighborhood parks.
It is the City's policy to update neighborhood plans every six years. The Bear Creek neighborhood is overdue for a plan update, with the last update having occurred in 1995. The neighborhood plan update will involve a thorough evaluation of current policies and development trends. The updated plan will integrate existing and new policies to provide an updated framework for future growth and development in the neighborhood.
A successful neighborhood plan update depends on the dedicated involvement of a broad cross section of those who live and work in the Bear Creek neighborhood. You can get involved in a number of ways. For example, you can:
- Inform yourself by checking the meeting information page, reading Focus Magazine, and watching for neighborhood newsletters and other communication from the City
- Attend neighborhood open houses, City services fairs, and other neighborhood planning-focused events
- Attend neighborhood citizen advisory committee meetings and provide your ideas to citizen advisory committee members
- Put yourself on the mail and email list to ensure that you receive timely updates about the neighborhood plan update
