Redmond RiverWalk Amenity Projects

South Gateway
The South Gateway is one of the first RiverWalk amenity elements to be constructed.  This modest project, located just north of Leary Way on the east side of the Sammamish River, consists of a plaza area with a curved bench, trash receptacle, illuminated bollards, signage and landscaping.  An information kiosk is located approximately 150 feet south of the plaza for maximum trail user accessibility.  Funds to purchase this kiosk were generously donated by Emerald Heights Retirement Community.

The North Gateway
The North Gateway component of the RiverWalk Master Plan has been combined with the NE 90th Street Bridge Project.  The bridge design and associated landscaping and hardscape create the northern entry to RiverWalk.  Design features include formal plantings that transition to native plantings along the river's edge.  Salmon artwork has been incorporated into the bridge abutments and salmon impressions are located in the trail access points from NE 90th Street.  River access is provided by stone-type steps from the Sammamish River Trail. A salmon sculpture sits on the north side of the gateway.

The Stroll
A schematic design plan has been developed for The Stroll.  It is a salmon-friendly water conservation demonstration garden.  The design mimics a native northwest river system resembling the meanders, side channels, and gravel bars originally found along the Sammamish River. The City is in the process of securing adequate funding to build this project. Due to water conservation guidelines, plants must be installed during the fall.

The City received a King Conservation District grant as well as donations from Microsoft Corporation and Emerald Height Retirement Community to build this project. We anticipate project construction in either 2004 or 2005.
