Each year, the City of Redmond carries out an update to the
Comprehensive Plan as provided for by State law.
Requesting a Comprehensive Plan Amendment
State law allows the City to consider one package of Plan amendments
annually. The deadline for applications for the 2008-09 Comprehensive
Plan Amendment package was June 2, 2008. Applications received through
spring 2009 will be considered for the 2009-10 package.
A deadline for the 2009-10 package will be announced in spring 2009. Anyone may request an amendment
to the Comprehensive Plan or the Community Development
Guide. For site-specific requests, the affected property owners must
agree to the request. Examples of previous requests include proposals
to change the type or density of uses allowed on a property.
How To Apply: Complete the
application packet for
Comprehensive Plan amendments or
Development Guide amendments, or obtain the packets by calling the
Long Range Planning Division at 425-556-2421. There is no
fee for applying for a Plan amendment. Applicants are strongly
encouraged to meet with City planning staff prior to submitting an
application. Additional general information is available from the City's
letter of notice.
There are twenty amendments proposed for consideration during
2007-08. Thirteen are City initiated while seven are privately
initiated. Eight amendments are carried-over from the 2006-07
Package. A summary of each is contained in
Ordinance
2360.
Through April 1, 2008, the Council has acted on five of the
amendments. In November the City Council approved the Aegis at Bear
Creek (aka Keller Farm) Comprehensive Plan Amendment (Ordinances
2369 and 2370). The amended land-use and zoning designations allow
for the development of a retirement community on up to 8.8 acres of the
site, reserving about 115 acres for wetland mitigation banking.
In December, the Council adopted changes to the City's 2022
Transportation Facility Plan (Ordinance
2381), updating the status of several projects in the Southeast
Redmond neighborhood. Also in December the Council adopted Phase
1 of the Overlake Neighborhood Plan update (Ordinances
2384 and 2385), and the closely related amendments for the site
commonly known as the Group Health property (Ordinances
2382 and 2383). In April 2008 the Council approved changes to the
Comprehensive Plan related to High Capacity Transit/Light Rail planning
(Ordinance 2392).
As the Planning Commission reviews any proposed amendment, the
Commissioners
seek public comment throughout their
process. All Planning Commission meetings are open to the public
and are also cablecast live on
cable channel 21 (repeated the following
day and available
on demand).
