The Community Character and Historic Preservation Element provides a
design framework for new development and construction and also
addresses natural features and historic character preservation. The
Element promotes the goals of retaining Redmond’s distinct character,
and creating and enhancing gathering places and cultural opportunities.
It supports Redmond’s desire to maintain a successful business climate
and to foster innovative thinking. It addresses the vision of respect
for the natural features and its heritage.
The element also helps carry
out the vision of keeping Redmond a safe, friendly, and attractive city
in the future.
Major ideas in the
updated policies include:
- Strengthen the Plan's emphasis on retaining
Redmond’s distinct character. This new element addresses building
design, public spaces, natural features, landscaping, gateways,
public viewpoints and corridors, street design, historic resources,
and other features.
- Create excellent public places that are easily accessible,
active, and provide places for people to meet and socialize safely
and comfortably.
- Ensure that Redmond’s streets have distinctive character and are
people friendly.
- Identify major gateways into the City so that they can be
enhanced.
- And more…
