Amendments to
the Goals and Vision Element of the Comprehensive Plan were the first
phase of the update to be completed and further define the basis and direction for more specific elements. The
purpose of the Goals and Vision element is to describe how the
community wants Redmond to look and feel over the next 20 years, and to
communicate the major long-term values and preferences expressed by
people in the community.
Major ideas in the updated policies include:
- Contain in one location an easy-to-use description of the
community's long-term values and preferences for how Redmond should
look and feel over the next 20 years, and key policies to carry out
these preferences.
- Set the stage for new elements on community character, community
participation, and evaluation and implementation.
- Update the transportation framework policies to capture
values expressed by citizens and city officials, including
retaining Redmond's "green-city" character, investing in
transportation to support and achieve the land use plan,
developing strong transportation connections, promoting
mobility choices by developing a range of practical
transportation alternatives, influencing regional decisions and
enhancing transportation investments.
- Increase the emphasis on proactively working with public and
private interests, such as businesses, neighborhoods, organizations or
agencies, to implement the Comprehensive Plan, as well as the
importance of establishing and supporting a culture of dialogue and
partnership.
- And more…..
