Volunteer Posting: Healthy Start Event Committee
Have fun and help our young children get a healthy start! Community volunteers are needed to assist with Healthy Start's second breakfast fundraiser. The breakfast is November 15, 2007 at 7:30 a.m. in the Community Center at Mercer View, Mercer Island. The committee meets during the day in the Redmond, Bellevue area. The committee currently has several members but would like to expand our network of community volunteers. Areas in which we need assistance:

  • graphic design,
  • writing news releases and other marketing pieces
  • contacting potential sponsors
  • printing "save the date" cards and invitations
  • table captains to invite their friends
  • reservation coordination
  • centerpiece design
  • catering coordinator
  • day of event coordinator
  • office support

To join, please contact Co-chair, Mary Decher at 425-885-1305.

Graciela Italiano-Thomas, first CEO of Thrive by Five, will be our breakfast keynote speaker. Dr. Italiano-Thomas will address the importance of early learning from birth to age three for Washington state children.

Program Description:
Healthy Start is a home visiting, parent support and education program for young parents (22 or younger) who are pregnant or parenting their first child. Families enroll voluntarily during the pregnancy or before their child is six months old. Services, provided in English or Spanish, include home visits and group activities, the Parents as Teachers Born to Learn™ program model, goal setting, links to community resources, and much more. When the baby is very young services can be weekly and become less frequent as the new family becomes confident and successful with their parenting skills. Families leave Healthy Start when their child turns three. Healthy Start serves about 400 families annually in south Snohomish County and north and east King County.
