The Stormwater Utility Maintains Stormwater Facilities

Maintenance Operations (Stormwater) works to:

• Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair the public stormwater infrastructure.
• Clean catch basins, pipes, and underground vaults with a vactor truck..
• Remove unwanted vegetation with summer crews.
• Clean out bioswales, ditches, and ponds.
• Rebuild pipes, catch basins, and manholes.
• Support habitat projects and remove sediment from streams.

The City of Redmond’s Stormwater Maintenance Division provides 24/7 year-round services to citizens residing within the 16 square miles of Redmond. Our goal is to protect property and the environment by improving water quality and minimizing flooding, while protecting the City’s capital investment in stormwater facilities. Normal operating times are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM (3:30 PM on Fridays). Staff are on-call for emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Division uses the latest technologies to inspect, maintain, and repair existing stormwater systems in the City. Personnel respond to drainage questions, runoff problems, storm events, and flooding.

Redmond’s publicly maintained stormwater system collects, conveys, stores and treats stormwater and includes more than: 170 miles of pipe; 9,963 catch basins and manholes; 79 vaults, 84 ponds, 40 bioswales, 25 miles of roadside drainage ditches; and 68 miles of streams.

A well functioning stormwater system safeguards the local environment, and in doing so, protects endangered salmon, migratory birds, aquatic and other valuable wildlife; all for the ecological well-being of present and future generations.
