Did you know that computers, televisions, and other electronic devices
are not allowed in the garbage?
Out-dated electronic products are one of the fastest growing segments of
the waste stream. But because these products contain lead, mercury and
other substances that pose a threat to human health and the environment,
we no longer want to put them into landfills and let toxins leach into
our groundwater.

Now residents of single-family households can place them at curbside for
easy collection. To schedule a pick-up, call Waste Management, Inc. at
1-800-592-9995 at least one business day ahead of your garbage
collection.
Please put electronics two (2) feet away from your blue recycling cart.
Put smaller electronic items like cell phones, keyboards and cables in
clear plastic bags and place them two (2) feet from your blue cart. Do
not put them in your cart, as they need to be collected and recycled
separately.
The curbside program accepts these items (limit 60 lbs. per unit):
- Computer equipment
- VCR
- Audio Equipment
- TVs (limit 21” screen)
- Cell phones
Technicians will disassemble the units to recover recyclable
materials, and the hazardous components will be safely disposed at a
hazardous waste facility.
Three times a year (April, July and October) the City of Redmond
sponsors a one-day event to collect items for recycling.
At the events we accept these items (working or non-working) for a FEE,
as we must send them to a certified processor for proper handling and
disposal:
- Televisions -- $15
- Computers (desktop or laptop) -- $10
- Monitor -- $10
- Copier -- $10
- Stereo -- $10
We accept checks only, payable to “City of Redmond.” The above fees
are waived (except TV sets 22” or larger) for those single-family
residents who are also Waste Management garbage customers to drop off
one each of the above listed items. To qualify for the waiver you must:
(1) be a single-family resident living within the City limits; and (2)
bring your most recent garbage bill.
The following working items will be collected for FREE:
- Printers
- Modems
- Speakers
- Networking devices
- Keyboards, mice, cables, UPS, etc.
The 'Take it Back Network' is a group of retailers, repair shops,
recyclers, waste haulers and nonprofit organizations that recycle or
reuse electronic equipment. Network members accept a variety of
electronic equipment such as computers, monitors, printers, TVs, cell
phones, PDAs, fax machines, stereos, DVD and VCR players, other
household electronics and rechargeable batteries. The electronics are
recycled domestically in an environmentally sound manner. 'Take it Back
Network' members usually charge a fee for their recycling services.
