Fall 2010 Recycling Event: Saturday, October 2nd

The date for the Fall Recycling Event is Saturday, October 2, 2010.

One of our most popular events is Redmond's Recycling and Collection Event, and it's held three times a year. The event is designed to help you reuse or recycle materials that are currently not included in our curbside recycling programs.  It's all free (limits apply) except for refrigeration units!

Garbage, Recycling and Yard Waste Service

The City contracts with Waste Management/Sno-King to provide garbage, recycling and yard waste collection services for its businesses, multi-family complexes and single-family residences. The City's program is designed to meet customers' individual needs instead of a "one size fits all" model. The variable rate structure for garbage collection allows customers to select a container that best suits their needs pay according to how much waste they generate. As the monthly fee includes recycling service for glass, aluminum, newspaper, and mixed paper, the system encourages waste reduction and recycling.

Questions you may have about your curbside service (Which plastics can be recycled? What are the rules for recycling yard trimmings? etc.) may be answered by visiting the Waste Management website.  When you open the home page for the link(s) below, follow the menu listed on the left to navigate to the information you're researching:

Waste Management - Multi-family Service
Waste Management - Commercial Service

Waste Management is committed to providing reliable collection for all customers. However, in the unusual event that circumstances such as unsafe roads interfere with regular service schedules, we appreciate customer understanding and cooperation as we manage collection on emergency scheduling. For updated information check the Waste Management/Redmond website.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact the City of Redmond at nr@redmond.gov or calling 425-556-2832, or you may contact Waste Management directly at 1-800-592-9995.

Food Recycling for Redmond Businesses

This year, the City of Redmond has started a new food recycling program for businesses. Businesses may request up to two 64-gallon food recycling carts - picked up two times a week by Waste Management. Acceptable types of material include: meat, cheese, vegetable scraps, fruit scraps and food soiled paper. Click here for a complete listing. Collected materials are sent to Cedar Grove and composted. Within 8 weeks, soil is ready for landscaping!

Now businesses can get regular recycling and food recycling at no additional cost! Call 425-556-2897 for more information.

Household Hazardous Materials
King County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous wastes by taking them to the Household Hazardous Wastemobile.  The mobile unit travels from city to city throughout the year to collect paints, pesticides, cleaners, solvents, and other chemicals from your home.  Residents are not charged to drop off materials.

For more information about household hazardous waste disposal options, check out the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County.
