This division is critical to supporting
investigations, assisting in successful prosecution at criminal and civil
trials, facilitating the timely return of property to its rightful
owners, and in maintaining the public's confidence and trust.
The The Police Department, in conjunction with the
Evidence Technician(s), is responsible for protecting all property
submitted as evidence and for maintaining an uninterrupted chain of
custody. Evidence control is maintained by a secure records management
computer system. The Evidence Technician processes latent fingerprints
and is a member of the International Association of Property and
Evidence.
The Division is responsible for holding property submitted to the police
as "found." Found property is held for 60 days with a reasonable effort
made to find the identity of the owners. Citizens looking for
"lost/found" property can also check the announcements section of the
classified ads in the Redmond Reporter as well as
www.seattle.craigslist.org for Eastside lost and found announcements.
Please note that the only property advertised is that which the finder
makes a claim on it.
To make an appointment, the Property/Evidence Division
