Citizen's Academy
This program provides a free comprehensive overview of policing in Redmond. The academy features informative and entertaining instruction on various topics ranging from crime prevention, patrol procedures, traffic enforcement, accident investigation, SWAT, K-9, and emergency preparedness. View photos from previous sessions. The purpose of the program is to educate Redmond citizens and employees in the inner-workings of their Police Department's procedures. To apply for upcoming Citizen Police Academies, please fill out an online application.

The Internet and Your Child
IYC is a program designed to close the digital divide between parents and their children. The program's primary goal is to prevent children from falling victim of crimes via the internet and educate adults in the use of the Internet. This class shows parents how to monitor what their children are doing online and how to discuss rules and ethics that can keep them safe when they are online. If you are interested in attending this class please place your name on the waiting list.

Identity Theft
One of the fastest growing crimes in America is Identity Theft.  This two-hour class informs you how people fall victim of ID Theft and ways to prevent it.

  • Deter identity thieves by safeguarding your information
  • Detect suspicious activity by routinely monitoring your financial accounts and billing statements

Women's Personal Safety
It is important to realize anyone can be a victim of personal crime. This two-hour program teaches crime prevention techniques; it is not a self-defense course. The focus is on awareness and strategies to help a woman reduce the possibility of becoming a victim of crime. It provides an overview of how to reduce risk, better protect yourself, and take proper precautions in your home, away from home, in your vehicle, and more. It is appropriate for women ages 15 and older.

  • How to prevent becoming the victim of assault or robbery.
  • How to handle "road rage" and prevent accidents.
  • How to handle armed encounters including car jackings.
  • How to make your home a "hard target."
  • Use of force and your rights within the law.
  • The pros and cons of weapons for personal security
  • How to decrease your odds of becoming a victim while at home.

Robbery Awareness and Prevention
The purpose of this program is to provide information to persons and businesses who are at risk of becoming victims of robbery. The program focuses on educating the public on how to avoid becoming a victim and how to respond if confronted by a robber.



Shoplifting Prevention

Shoplifting Prevention is offered to local businesses to educate owners and store employees on how to recognize and deter shoplifters and what action they can legally take if they witness a violation. The laws pertaining to shoplifting along with some of the more common shoplifting techniques are discussed.



Safer Seniors

Senior Awareness is directed toward senior adults. The emphasis of this program is to educate the senior adult community about crimes they are most likely to be the victims of due to their age. Scams and frauds are discussed along with basic safety practices that can easily be incorporated into the senior adult's daily activities such as how to carry their belongings, cash monitoring, and the buddy system.
