The K-9 Unit is a sub-unit of the Patrol Division and is
on call to respond to alarms, prowler calls, robberies, and other calls where a
suspect is present and/or has just fled. This Unit was formed in March of 2001
and is a specialized team that locates suspects, evidence articles, and
narcotics.
It was with great sadness the Redmond Police Department suffered the sudden
passing of its K-9, Monty on November 14, 2007. Monty and his handler, Officer
Sam Hovenden, began serving the City of Redmond in March 2001. Together, they
had over 125 captures and conducted over 300 narcotics searches with over 225
resulting in narcotic finds. They seized over $570,000 in narcotics and over
$85,000 in identified drug money.
