Advancement through the proficiency levels shall be automatic, provided performance of the individual is progressing satisfactorily. Should performance not be progressing satisfactorily, the next automatic step may be delayed for up to six (6) months, provided the employee has been notified in writing at least thirty (30) days prior to the date the increase would become effective.

The salary range described above reflects the basic pay rate for police officers as of January 1, 2008 and does not include specialty assignment pay, overtime, and holiday pay. Officers receive paid vacation days accrued based on length of employment with the City.

 

Municipal Employees Benefit Trust (MEBT)
All City of Redmond employees participate in the Benefit Trust (401K) which replaces coverage by Social security and includes Long Term Disability Insurance and Survivors’ Income Insurance. A portion of the employee's contibution is employer matched and is fully vested in five years.

Law Enforcement Officers & Firefighters Retirement (LEOFF)
LEOFF is a defined benefit (401A), state retirement system mandated by statute. Officers covered under the LEOFF II Retirement System receive a retirement allowance based on their total service credit and their final average compensation for the last 60 months of service. LEOFF II is fully vested after five service credit years.

Medical Coverage
The City of Redmond is self-insured, which includes medical, vision, and dental benefits. Full premiums are paid by the City. This is only a summary of benefits and may be subject to change without significant notice.

Work Schedule
Police Officers assigned to the Patrol Division work a 4 on, 3 off schedule consisting of 10 hours shifts.

Uniforms & Equipment
Redmond Police Officers are fully uniformed and equipped at the expense of the Department. Unlimited dry cleaning and replacement of uniforms is also provided.

Physical Fitness Bonus
Officers of the Redmond Police Department are eligible to receive an annual pay incentive on the basis of successfully completing a physical fitness evaluation. Officers testing to the "distinguished" level receive 2.5% of the monthly salary. Those testing to the "competent" level receive 1.5% of their monthly salary.

Tuition Reimbursement
Officers interested in furthering the education through a Masters Degree may receive tuition reimbursement. Reimbursement is equivalent to the comparable rates of tuition for state residents at the University of Washington.

The Redmond Police Department was the first law enforcement agency in the State of Washington to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
