Housing Issues
What is Happening in Housing?
When Redmond updated its Comprehensive Plan in 2004, the community took the opportunity to look at what its housing needs would be over 20 years. As citizens are aware, Redmond’s employment base has grown significantly since the mid-1990s, from 47,000 is 1995 to nearly 82,000 in 2006! Not surprisingly, the housing market also took-off to provide new homes to respond to that growth.

At the same time, the community made clear that it values encouraging the provision of a variety of housing choices for people of a variety of ages and incomes. The City has adopted policies in the Housing Element of its Comprehensive Plan that speak directly to those values, and has set in motion a number of initiatives consistent with them.

The table below summarizes Redmond’s residential growth since 2002. To find out more about how Redmond supports housing choices, affordability, and how the City partners with other housing-focused organizations in the region, browse the links at the top of the page.
