Family Programs at Farrel-McWhirter Park
General Information | Farm Theme Birthday Package | Pioneer & Nature Adventures Packages

Pioneer Trek and Nature Adventures Group Packages

Another option for your group is a Pioneer Trek or Nature Adventures group package. To schedule, call Cindy at 425-556-2393 at least 10 days prior to program date and may be made two months in advance.

Pioneer Trek
Travel back in time to experience what it was like to live in Redmond in the late 1800s. You'll get to learn about the history of Farrel-McWhirter Park, dress up in period costumes, do some farm "chores," and play games similar to what pioneer children participated in many years ago.

This program is perfect for scout troops*, youth groups, birthday parties, and homeschoolers in grades 1-3.

*Brownie Try-Its: Much of the existing pioneer curriculum fits the Brownie Try-It Badge requirement for "Listening to the Past," including the following: If These Buildings Could Talk, Acting Out, and Games of the Past. This program can also be adapted to earn Camp Fire beads.  Available April through September.  $110 for up to 12 participants max, ages 6-9 years, with a minimum of 2 adults. Program length is 2 hours. To schedule, call Cindy at 425-556-2393.

Nature Adventures
Calling all naturalists! Choose from three different areas of interest to explore nature at Farrel-McWhirter Park. These programs fit well with the following Brownie Try-Its: Animals, Earth & Sky, and Eco-Explorer. Activities also fit well with Camp Fire USA programs, youth groups, and Homeschool organizations

Animals: Come learn some basic animal facts. Then, we'll practice observing animals in the farm area, and take a hike through the forest. There will be time to warm up inside and practice our animal sounds, movements, and maybe even learn some animal songs, too!

Earth & Sky: Be scientists and learn to make observations of what is happening down in the earth and up in the sky! We'll make transects of the area, observe erosion and even make a sedimentary rock to take home. We'll also look up to learn about clouds and see what's flying around.

Eco-Explorer: Be ecologists and study how plants and animals live together in an environment. Learn about habitats and food chains through art, games, and songs. On our hike through the forest, we'll learn to make field observations of wildlife and plants, and then record them in special field journals.

$110 for up to 12 participants max, ages 6-9 years, with a minimum of 2 adults. Program length is 2 hours. To schedule, call Cindy at 425-556-2393.
