Martial Arts
Tai Chi
This class focuses on the health of the whole person with a series of relaxed breathing and strengthening exercises. During the class, we practice a pattern slowly, with emphasis on healthy joints and movement, with a strong, relaxed body & mind. Tai Chi is practiced for strengthening and stretching the body, increasing energy (chi) flow, and calming the mind. We welcome people of all levels and physical abilities in these classes, ages 12 and older. We practice Yang style forms and the Korean Kwon Bup form.
 

Kinder Karate
Introduce your young child to the martial art of karate. This program teaches basic directional skill and coordination while incorporating the etiquette and terminology of this Japanese art. Students learn basic punches, kicks, blocks, and stances in the form of structured drills and games, as well as developing strength, coordination, flexibility and balance. The instructors are international champions and current USA Karate Team members. Classes are taught at the Washington Karate Association, a nationally and internationally recognized school for over 37 years. The Bellevue Dojo is located at 14906 Bel-Red Road, 425-641-8123. Please have your child wear loose, comfortable clothing. 

TaeKwonDo
TaeKwonDo translates as 'foot hand way'. Kicks, hand techniques, and patterns are practiced during this class. Board breaking and non-contact sparring, warm-ups, and cool downs are included in the practice of this traditional Korean art. Flexibility, strength, balance, and self-confidence are all improved in this enjoyable group class! We welcome people of all ranks, beginner through advanced, ages 6 through adult. 

Martial Arts Day Camp-Mid Winter Break!
Learn Hapkido, TaeKwonDo, AiKiDo, Tai Chi and the cultures from which they came, in a FUN & ACTIVE environment! Learn rolls, how to fall safely, kicks, and hand techniques. Martial arts workouts, and the history behind the arts will be included along with traditional arts and crafts, such as origami, during the camp. No previous martial arts experience is necessary. Individual attention and instruction in a group structure is provided for the students. Please bring lunch and a water bottle.

Hapkido Introduction
Hapkido is a complete martial arts system that includes empty hand and weapons (wooden sword/staff/etc.) practice.  Hapkido is an excellent art for self defense.  This is a beginner course that is designed to introduce the participants to this art in a non-competitive and safe environment.  Learn the basics of Hapkido movement with or without a partner.  Benefits include increased physical fitness, flexibility, strength, balance, confidence, and a more peaceful mind.  An enjoyable workout that is taught by professional black belt instructors.

Martial Arts Introduction   ~ NEW!
This six week introductory course is designed for those interested in choosing a martial arts path to follow or for those who are interested in a brief sample of the martial arts. Learn about the concepts and philosophy of Hapkido, Aikido, TaeKwonDo, and Tai Chi.  Practice martial arts basics in a positive and nurturing environment.  Instructors are experienced black belt trainers with a focus on health of the body and mind.

Aikido   ~ NEW!
Aikido (harmony energy way) is a martial arts system that includes training in traditional Japanese weapons and empty-hand techniques.  A graceful art and an effective self defense, the practice of Aikido encourages self confidence, with a strong mind body connection.  Students of Aikido learn to center, blend, and redirect energy, while learning to roll and fall safely.  Students strive to practice intense energy, relaxation, mental focus, and calm in everything you do.


Kempo Martial Arts

Classes include Introduction to Kempo Juniors, Introduction to Kempo Juniors, and Introduction to Kempo Beginning Adults  
Shaolin Kempo or Kenpo ‘Law of the Fist’ or ‘Fist Law’ is a blend of Karate, Kung Fu, and Japanese Jiu Jitsu. It is a complete self defense system. It incorporates blocking, open hand techniques, and practical kicking. We work hard to make your or your child's first experience with the martial arts a safe and productive one. Young people must have personal goals and a caring support system to make their dreams a reality. We will help your child become a strong able and productive member of society armed with character, strong self-discipline, and a healthy self-image. With our safe and friendly environment your child will gain flexibility, increased physical fitness, strength, and balance. Your child will receive private and group instruction as part of their introduction to Shaolin Kempo. For adults, we tailor the art to the individual. Men and women of all ages can benefit from the versatility of Shaolin Kempo. A discipline, sport, art, and way of life, the martial arts offer the adult student many unique benefits. You may be a professional looking for that added mental edge in business, or someone who just wants to feel stronger and be more energetic. In our classes you will gain self-control, self-awareness, flexibility, increased physical fitness, strength, and balance. Adult students will receive private and group instruction as part of their introduction to Shaolin Kempo. All classes are taught by instructors who have graduated the United Studios Instructors Academy, and are held at the United Studios of Self Defense in Redmond at the Bella Bottega Center.
