Since the 1997 Parks, Recreation, Open Space Plan (PRO Plan) identified
the need for a downtown park, the City has been searching for an
appropriate site for a central park that would create:
- a place for the city to gather and celebrate
- a vibrant community space that encourages special events,
arts, music and fun
- park and open space for new residential growth in the downtown
- a way to pull Redmond Town Center and Historic Redmond
together
- an urban park that will stimulate economic vitality in
downtown
The PRO Plan identified the King County Park and Ride site as a possible
location for central park. This site remained viable until the
construction of the new City Hall and King County's plan to redevelop
the site with a new Transit Center and Condos.
In 2003 the King County Shop Site was funded on the Capital Improvement
Program for park land and future transportation corridors. With
the construction of the Bear Creek Parkway almost complete, the
remaining parcel has been identified as a possible downtown park site.
During construction of the new City Hall, a campus master plan promoted
the campus as the central park.
After the Downtown Central Park was identified as a park project on the
2009-2010 Capital Improvement Program, park staff identified site
criteria and researched various site locations for the park.
Several locations were reviewed. See the attached map and chart
for site criteria and locations.
Please keep checking the website for future meeting dates. If you
