Supplemental Maintenance Aides (7 - 11 vacancies) 
Job Number 10-06
Public Works - Maintenance Operations Division

SALARY:  $13.12 - $18.04 per hour 
DATE OPEN:  January 22, 2010
DATE CLOSED:  Open until filled; preference to applications received by February 5, 2010.

HOURS:  Monday – Friday (40 hrs/wk), generally 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

START DATES:
  Positions begin in March/April or May/June dependent upon specific work group needs.  All positions are scheduled to end no later than October 30, 2010.  Position is limited to 1,040 hours per calendar year

  Water, Wastewater, Streets, Stormwater and Fleet Maintenance.

Duties:
Duties include but are not limited to: performing routine tasks such as weed-eating, raking, edging, shoveling and other means of mechanical vegetation control; litter pick-up; cleaning and repairing trails, grounds, buildings and other public facilities; traffic control in a work zone of a city right-of-way; cleaning and painting fire hydrants and/or roadway curbs; installing water meters; assisting other employees with maintenance tasks; and performing other duties as assigned. Fleet maintenance duties include, but are not limited to:  automotive parts ordering and invoice processing.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent.  Experience in maintenance or other related work preferred.  Must be 18 years of age or older by date of hire.  Mechanical aptitude and use of power and related hand tools is desired.

Licenses/Other Requirements:
Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire and a driving record that meets City standards.  Possession of a valid flagging card and/or an adult first aid/CPR card is desirable.  Successful applicants must provide own steel-toed, safety boots (City will provide 50% toward that purchase, not to exceed $100).  Physical agility, stamina and ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed outdoors in all types of weather.
