Youth Basketball Officials
(Supp. Recreation Leader I)

SALARY:  $8.55 - $14.04 per hour, DOE  
DATE OPEN:  October 30, 2009
DATE CLOSED:  Ongoing recruitment until all positions are filled; The City will continue to accept applications for future position openings.
HOURS/DURATION:  Work schedules may change from week to week.  Approximately 3-6 hours per week average, Saturdays (between 8am - 6pm). Basketball games are scheduled from November through February.

Duties:
Officiate youth basketball games for kids grades 1-6.  Prepare courts for play, recruit volunteer score-keepers, assist Gym Supervisor with opening, closing, and cleaning gym.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: the basic rules and procedures of basketball.  Paid training is provided.
Ability to: communicate effectively orally and in writing; follow verbal and written instructions; demonstrate good public relations skills; accurately make necessary calls or rulings for the game in progress; effectively deal with controversy; learn and enforce policies, procedures, and league rules.

Requirements:
Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age to apply.  If relevant, applicants must have a valid Washington state driver's license, and a driving record that meets City standards.

Working Conditions:
Indoor work environment. Exposure to dust, pollen, and gym noise.  Must be able to: visually observe the game; hear and speak to exchange information and provide work direction; walk, bend at the waist, kneel or crouch; lift up to 25 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time; and have good dexterity of hands and fingers to perform various tasks .
