Teen Center Event Coordinator (Supp. Recreation Leader III)

SALARY:  $10.80 - $18.82 per hour, DOE  
DATE OPEN:  July 9, 2009
DATE CLOSED:  Open until filled; preference to applications received by July8, 2009
HOURS/DURATION:  Supplemental, part-time position; 10-20 hours per week; afternoon and evening hours.  Hours may vary and include weekends.  Position is limited to 1,040 hours per year.

Duties:
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Coordinator, this position will develop, plan and oversee special events at the Old Fire House Teen Center.  The Events Coordinator must involve, educate, and empower youth throughout all programs.  Duties include but are not limited to: provide oversight to the Booking and Promotions Interns; and plan, schedule, promote and oversee teen center programs, including music-related events two Fridays a month, arts-related events two Fridays a month, one Band Pool show a month, and one larger band show a month.  The Event Coordinator will also be responsible for interacting with teens and providing supervision for the teen drop-in program; planning and leading activities appropriate for teen audiences; providing supervision and ensuring participant safety in busy drop-in program for 50-150 teens per evening; performing site preparation and clean-up activities; and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: current office practices, procedures and computer programs and equipment; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; experience and training with teen populations; and experience in booking and promotions is helpful.
Ability to: work in a team setting; communicate effectively with teens and other staff; explain and enforce City policies and procedures related to the Teen Center; proactively deal with customer service and safety concerns.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent and leadership experience working with teens.  Experience with venue management, concert booking and promotions is helpful.

Licenses/Requirements:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire and a driving record that meets City standards.  Must have or obtain a current First Aid and CPR certification by date of hire. Flexibility to work additional hours for special events.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a teen center environment, subject to frequent interruptions and potentially stressful situations.  Lifting up to 60 pounds may be required.
