SALARY:  $3,652 to $4,498 per month, DOQ

DURATION:  Two (2) year limited duration position with benefits.

Duties:
Under the direction of the Permit Tech/Plans Examiner Supervisor, this position processes planning, building, and fire permits and responds to customer inquiries at the Development Services Center counter. Duties include, but are not limited to: accepting applications, tracking and assisting in all aspects of the permit process including dispensing detailed information and verifying necessary approvals; calculating building size and advising applicants of permit fees; reviewing plans for complete paperwork; creating and maintaining files; creating reports; receipting and balancing monies collected; and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: basic math principles; record keeping, research and analytical techniques. Terminology and codes related to the building trade; basic principles and practices of land use, zoning, building and engineering helpful.
Skill in: interpersonal relations; conflict resolution; recognizing significance of technical details and when to notify appropriate personnel; software system including the Permit System and a computerized cash receipting system (Quadrant System).
Ability to: communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; read and interpret maps and blueprints; work closely with the public, and other City departments and agencies; deal with constant interruptions; work with little supervision; work independently and as part of a team; work under stress and meet deadlines as required.

Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma and three (3) years technical experience in permit processing or administrative operations.

Licenses/Requirements: Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire. Must obtain certification as permit technician within six (6) months from date of hire. Fulfillment of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed in an office environment. May be required to stand at a counter for long periods of time when assisting customers. Lift and carry plans, boxes, and large books usually not exceeding 30 lbs.
