City Background:
Incorporated in 1912 and with a population of 49,890 residents, Redmond
is the seventh largest city in King County. It encompasses an area totaling 16.7
square miles and is located 20 miles east of downtown Seattle. The City prides

As the City continues to rapidly grow and attract new residents and businesses,
Redmond is seeking to fill one Accounting Manager vacancy within its Accounting
Division. The successful incumbent will join an exciting and demanding team that
will support, and help shape the City’s future. Under the direction of the
Finance and Information Services Director, this position plans, directs and
manages the day-to-day activities of the Accounting Division including general
accounting and payroll. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for Redmond’s
E1 Financial System.
Job Duties:
Specific responsibilities for this position include:
Accounting: The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day activities of
the Accounting Division including financial reporting, payroll, grants, fixed
assets and general ledger maintenance as well as:
• Assist in the planning, management and coordination of the City’s financial
accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
prescribed by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and with Budget,
Accounting and Reporting System (BARS).
• Manage the audit process and serve as the primary contact to the State
Auditor’s Office and other auditing agencies.
• Supervise maintenance of the general ledger including development and
maintenance of the chart of accounts, review and approval of journal entries,
determination of proper account coding and provide technical assistance to
Finance staff and other departments as well as assure accounting records are in
balance with actual cash investments, accounts receivable and deposits.
• Develop, implement and enforce accounting policies and procedures and
standards throughout the City.
• Maintain the integrity of the internal control systems for the City’s cash
accounting procedures throughout the organization.
• Prepare the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Statements in accordance
with generally accepted accounting principles.
Leadership: The successful candidate will plan, prioritize and delegate work to
division employees; determine work schedules and assignments, review work
progress and direct changes in priorities and schedules as needed. This position
is a part of the Finance and Information Services Management team and will be
called upon to assist the Department Director in the development and
implementation of department goals, objectives and short/long range plans.
Presentations: The successful candidate will participate, support and/or prepare
reports and recommendations to the Finance and Information Services Director,
Mayor and/or City Council.
Qualifications:
The successful incumbent will demonstrate excellent attributes in the following
areas:
Comprehensive knowledge of: generally accepted accounting principles,
governmental accounting and reporting standards and practices, including grant
accounting and enterprise funds. Ability to use financial records in accordance
with applicable Federal and State laws relative to governmental accounting
procedures and requirements. Ability to apply state and local laws and
ordinances governing custody and disbursements of funds.
Skill in: supervisory theories and practices and effective supervision of
employees; communication of legal requirements and policies; creation of
effective internal practices.
Ability to: manage multiple, concurrent assignments while maintaining the
highest quality and timeliness for each; innovate improvements to existing
processes; analyze and communicate interpretation of accounting rules and
regulations; apply independent professional judgment; research policy issues;
communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of audiences;
work both independently and collaboratively; and maintain effective working
relationships.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely
related field. Five (5) years increasing responsible experience in municipal
financial management, accounting, financial reporting and payroll; with a
minimum of two years supervisory experience.
Licenses/Requirements:
Valid Washington State driver's license at time of hire and a driving
record that meets City standards.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Attendance at evening
meetings may be required.
