HOURS & DURATION: Pre-season hours:
Mid-March through Mid-June (5-20 hours per week to assist until beachfront is
set up; hours may vary depending on program needs). Season hours: Mid-June
through Mid-September, (35-40 hours per week; hours may vary depending on
weather conditions and beach attendance). Please do not apply if you cannot

Duties:
Responsible for: 1) coordinating the set-up of beach program, including
equipment and supplies, at Idylwood Park prior to the season, 2) assisting with
the hiring of the lifeguard staff, 3) coordinating all aspects of lifeguard
related staff training and testing, including in-service trainings throughout
the season, 4) daily scheduling and supervision of lifeguard staff and
substitutes, 5) coordinating and leading staff meetings, 6) lifeguarding on an
as needed basis, which may include daily shifts, 7) providing quality customer
service and public education on water safety to park visitors, 8) assisting with
the management of all aspects of the aquatics budget, 9) the accountability of
the lifeguard staff, and all Idylwood Beach related programs and activities.
Qualifications:
Ability to: work independently as well as in a team setting, develop work
schedules, supervise staff, maintain accurate records, conduct basic beach front
maintenance duties, enforce regulations and policies to the visiting public and
provide quality customer service to park visitors. Must be able to work the
complete lifeguard season and attend all training sessions as scheduled.
Education and Experience:
H.S. diploma or equivalent, and 2-3 years lifeguarding experience at a pool or
beach park is required. Supervisory experience in an aquatics program required,
with supervisory experience in an open water aquatics program desirable.
Licenses/Other Requirements:
Current certification in: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid and
American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. The Northwest Lifeguard
Test or equivalent, Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor
certification is desirable. Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License,
and a driving record that meets City standards. Must be 21 years of age by June
1, 2008.
Working Conditions:
Outdoor recreational environment subject to noise,
distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and dangers associated
with aquatics setting.
