Duties:
Under the direction of the Policy Planning Manager,
duties for this position include:
1. Managing planning-related land use data for use in planning functions,
analysis, and report generation in coordination with other City divisions,
departments and agencies.
2. Using GIS, urban design and visualization tools to provide information
regarding existing and potential future conditions for use in planning
processes.
3. Performing a variety of long-range planning functions, including
developing and recommending updates to Comprehensive Plan elements and
development regulations, developing and presenting staff reports and
recommendations, and conducting planning studies.
4. Providing assistance to and responding to requests for information from
residents, property owners, businesses, the development community and other
members of the public.
5. Assisting with other aspects of the City’s long range planning functions,
which may include housing, transportation, neighborhood planning, and
annexation.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of: land use and urban planning; GIS and database structures; urban
design and visualization tools such as Sketch Up; applicable local, state and
federal codes, ordinances, and practices; methods and techniques of community
involvement.
Ability to: communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and
maintain effective working relationships with City staff, City Council, Planning
Commission, the community, and other agencies; plan and organize work to meet
deadlines; effectively prioritize and resolve problems; and work independently
and as part of a team.
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to: BA degree in urban or regional planning, urban
design, architecture, landscape architecture, geography or closely related field
and two (2) to four (4) years of professional urban planning experience. A.I.C.P.
certification is desirable.
Licenses/Requirements: Valid Washington State
driver's license required by date of hire with good driving record. Fulfillment
of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment, subject to driving a vehicle to
attend meetings and events.
