SALARY:  $11.91 - $20.73 per hour, DOQ
(anticipated starting salary $15.00 per hour)

HOURS:  Flexible hours, based on availability (school breaks, summer 2008)

Duties:
Assist Public Works Construction Engineering Division staff members in their duties, with a variety of long-range and current public works tasks. Duties include but are not limited to: conducting data collection and data entry of statistics regarding Public Works projects; performing mathematical computations for public works projects; prepare mailings or provide other miscellaneous administrative support; conduct construction inspection of public works projects; and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of: engineering, drafting, math, and surveying; soil mechanics and construction materials.
Ability to: read and interpret contract specifications and engineering drawings; analyze problems and develop workable solutions; ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal assistance from Senior Engineering staff; communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing; deal courteously with contractors, agencies and the general public; use MS Office software (Word, Excel).

Education and Experience:

Currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or a closely related field.

Licenses/Requirements:
Valid Washington State driver's license required by date of hire and a driving record that meets the City’s driving standards.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office and outdoor environment with some field work required. The position includes work outdoors in inclement weather. Some physical hazard in exposure to traffic, heavy equipment, noise and obstacles at construction sites. Lifting in excess of 50 pounds may be required.
